WALDOEDE - 'Volksmythos' Demo (German Black Metal)

Opening with a guitar twang more akin to a Southern Blues song, German Black Metal project Waldoede soon unleash their gloomy lo-fi style and the debut demo 'Volksmythos' (Folk Myth) is firing on all cylinders.

Opening track 'Der Blutsauger' opens and closes with the same off kilter blues rock guitar play which adds a disjointed haunting key to proceedings, and in between this is a strong slab of murky riffs, muffled drumming and piercing vocal work. The English translation of this song is The Blood Sucker which is apt as this has a feel of 1930's horror flick written all over it. Following on from this is 'Das Verlorene Spiegelbild' (The Lost Reflection) which is a ravenous little ode now clearly vampiric in nature. Again this closes with those ominous tones and then leads into the harrowing synth work of 'Eine Letzte Stunde' or One Last Hour which brings to a close a twisted little demo that from the well executed synth, creeping atmosphere and wonderfully old school artwork is a must hear! [7 out of 10]
