AGES OF BLOOD are a black metal band hailing from Argentina. ‘Pagan Medieval Aristocracy’ begins with a wonderfully dark and sinister intro track of dungeon synth entitled ‘Frozen Castle in the Mist’ before kicking into the title track. On offer here is a fast paced yet measured style of Black Metal, made up from ice cold riff-age, a strong steady drumming/bass display and a traditional black metal vocal style. Interwoven throughout is a guitar melody that really brings the track to life, deeply atmospheric and showcasing some excellent guitar solos. A lengthy track of just over 8 minutes, things are spaced out nicely with some softer interludes before thundering back with more savage riffing melodies. Despite the steady, balanced style there is a cold fury behind this track. Taking the pace down a little but losing nothing in either intricacy or intensity, ‘Feeble Whispers from an Old Witch’ is a snarling slice of old school Black Metal, ravenous in sound and style. Sporting some very heavy bass segments where the rumbling four string really comes to the fore, this is another driven song that builds in menace and speed as it continues.

‘Forest of Dark Spirits’ is a pleasing little interlude of dungeon synth, haunting and a little folky and leads into the releases finale ‘Black Harvest’ which blends more dungeon synth undertones with a crushing, abrasive style of Black Metal. A more thoughtful, meandering track, ‘Black Harvest’ closes things out nicely. A superb release from Ages of Blood, one that leaves you pining for more. [8 out of 10]
